Falls City was founded in 1905 in Louisville, KY by a group of pub and grocery owners who were attempting to break up a monopoly on beer production in the area. Unlike most breweries of the day, it was never family-owned. Falls City was always a corporation.
We revived the brand in 2010 as an English Pale Ale made in the craft style with all barley malt in small batches. Falls City is the first “value” brand to be resurrected as a craft beer, so we decided it best to contract brew the beer until we were sure that the public was ready for this idea. We currently brew in two locations: Black River Falls, WI (with Sand Creek Brewing Co.) and Nashville, TN (with Blackstone Brewing Co.). This summer we installed our first brew system in Louisville, at 545 Barret Ave. The 7-barrel system we installed will be used primarily for tasting at our on-site tasting room and for keg and growler sales. We are in the final stages of opening the brewery now! Ultimately, we plan to build a 30-barrel production brewery in Louisville. We would like to meet some sales goals before making that investment, but we would like to think that we can do this by 2017.
Our flagship is our award-winning English Pale Ale. Not nearly as hoppy as an American Pale Ale, but with all the malt character. This smooth-finishing session ale is a great year-round go-to beer. However, we do intend to make seasonal varieties available through distribution and numerous varieties available at our brewery in Louisville.
We don’t know. We really have no idea the value of collectibles. Ebay is the best source for market value.
Falls City had a rich history of making ales before the rise of the “American Lager” put an end to ale production. We really wanted to resurrect that part of the history of the brand (before Prohibition). The adjunct lager segment of the market is so well-covered by people who make great beer (cheaply), there was no reason to try to compete with them. We want to make Falls City a world-class craft brand and we’re well on our way to doing that.
Very soon at our local brewery on Barret Ave. The larger production brewery for all distribution is in our five-year plan.
No, but I hear someone is.
Yes. Look for all types of different beers coming soon from our local brewery and a seasonal for distribution starting in 2013.
There are no plans to resurrect Billy as of today.
We had thought of resurrecting Drummond Brothers with Arnold and Willis on the can (from Diff’rent Strokes), but I decided I’ve seen enough of my lawyer for this year. Maybe next year.
We could be hiring in the next year. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we’ll always put positions in there.
Right now you can order anything we have online (store.fallscitybeer.com) but soon we’ll have everything at 545 Barret Ave. too and you can pick it up there during tasting hours.
We wish we could, but it’s against the law!
